Swapping from 3.73 to a 2.93
« on: August 18, 2016, 06:49:33 am »
Hi all,

I've lurked around here for years and have learned so much from all of the previous posts that I've never needed to ask a question until now, so any info you can share would be appreciated.

I have a near- new spooled 3.73 rear gear assembly and I've purchased a new 2.93 ring and pinion from Legend Cars Australia to swap into it but my transmission repair shop who is doing the work is reporting that the new ring has different size bolts that attached it to the spool and so it wont fit without modification to the spool. The new ring has much larger bolt holes than that of the 3.73.
I was of the belief that a spool for all of the ratios except the 2.50 was the same. This 2.93 ratio is rare down here in Oz and the local Legend importer is not sure if I need to buy a new spool or not.

Thank you,
Jason

I hope Randy will jump in on this one.
I do believe that both the 2.50 and 2.93 share a common bolt size.

The standard spool fits all ratios from 3:30 - 4:30.

The 2:50 & 2:93 require the road racing spool.

All of the Richmond/USLCI gears also use 3/8 "x 24 bolts; they are not metric.

Thanks Randy and Steve for your help.

I'll get on the phone in the morning and order a spool from Legend Cars Australia.

This forum and it's contributors is awesome.

Thanks again,
Jason
