Trouble Shifting W/O Clutch
« on: March 24, 2016, 10:22:24 am »
So last year at the Nationals I started shifting W/O the clutch on restarts. We would start in 2nd, then shift 3rd and 4th. All through Nationals I would rev her out, burp the throttle while I pulled the next gear and got back on the gas again.

Last week I just couldn't get her to shift without the clutch. Just seems weird,

Any ideas?

Worn or damage clutch discs?

I have experience shifting issues when my fiction dics were on there way out.

Everything good an tight on the linkage?

Also check the shifter shaft entering the motor. Make sure the clip is there and straight.

Do you have the aluminum block or steel lever shift linkage?

The aluminum blocks' splines tend to strip and makes it difficult to shift. Eventually it will not shift at all.

I had this happen 3+ years ago and switched to the steel lever. I have never had an issue since.

Here is the steel shift lever:

So this issue has been addressed. Took the motor to RRC and they found a FJ1200 rod in my XJR 1250 motor. That doesn't really explain how I was able to do it at nationals, what I do know is it shifts better now then it ever did with the proper rod in there.

I learn something more about this car every day.
