Valve Clearance
« on: November 29, 2015, 09:21:26 am »
So I was given a tip that running the valves a little on the loose side makes better power. So I am told 4-8 Thousandths Intake, and 8-10 Thousandths Exhaust is recommended. So what I understand is .008 intake and .10 exhaust would make maximum power.

My concern is this will reduce life of the motor, or even blow it up if run week to week like this.

I'm curious where you run yours?

Yamaha factory specs for the FJ series engines is 0.004-0.006" for Intake valves and 0.006-0.008" for Exhaust valves.  I set mine to be within those specs .  IMO - I'm sure Yamaha came up with these specifications as to allow for maximum performance and I see no reason to deviate from these specs.
