Car will not go into gear
« on: May 26, 2015, 02:52:09 pm »
I recently changed the clutch plates in my car and no the car rolls like the clutch is always engaged. It does have the aftermarket barnetts pressure plate and I have double checked torque and re assembly. Any ideas to what me be causing this issue.

Thanks,
Chris

Linkage issue? Double check.

Did you take the rod out? If so the metal ball might have fallen out on the back side. I'm not sure if it can come out on the front maybe someone else knows.

I just happened to rebuild the clutch in my legend car as well. I'm a little baffled  by your problem though.

Are you able to move the stick shift or is it locked or stuck?

When I had a shifting problem on my legend car years ago I found that the C-clip on the shifter shaft (on the engine) was beveled. This created play in the shaft. When the shaft pushed in the car would not shift gears. When backed out it would shift normally. I thought for sure there was something wrong internally.

Just a few thoughts, good luck!

If you did not index the pressure plate onto the center clutch boss properly then the clutch will remain disengaged.

Make sure the pressure plate "keys" into the clutch boss.

After getting it a part and comparing it to the original clutch plates I removed. I noticed I was 1 friction and 1 steel disc short. Can any one tell me the correct number of each I am supposed to have?

Thanks,
Chris

    Hi Chris,

7 steel plates and 8 carbon plates. Make note, the first carbon disc and the very last disc are different than the six others in the middle. Here's a diagram from bikebandit.com

The retaining clip, Item #8 is not needed and can do more harm than good from what I've heard.

Best of luck.

Eric

Make sure you soak them in oil before installing, I have put them together dry and everything sticks.
