Does anyone know at what point or amperage does the amp draw start hurting horsepower? Or I guess another way of putting it is how many amps is to many?
Little more information is that I have fabricated my own cooling fan on the heads. However the system I fabricated draws about 7.5 amps (this is using the ohm meter in series on the circuit), I currently use oil cooler fans and I tested them and they draw 5.5 amps. I do not plan on using the oil cooler fans but only the head fan so it would be an increase of 2 amps. I know the Atwood turbo 3000 fans that most the head cooling fan systems that you would buy draw 2.5 amps per fan but they only are rated at 100 cfm per fan so the total system only moves 200 cfm. The system I have fabricated moves 700 cfm. I think the gains of air flow compared to the increase in amperage is well worth it.
Also I have heard of people using two oil cooler fans as well as two fans on the head so this would be around 10 amps, slightly more than what I would be drawing.
Anyways back to the question at had, how much is too much?
