Pinion angle
« on: April 14, 2014, 08:32:39 pm »
If I'm spinning the tires up off of the corner even though I'm easing back into the throttle, could I increase the pinion angle and help resolve the problem? Thanks, Trey

That could be one solution, depends on what the problem is.
Easy one to try though

What would you recommend as a setting for it?

There are a lot of things to consider when you are having this issue.
Dirt or asphalt, banking, set-up, gearing for track, etc.
If you think its a pinion angle issue, just put a turn of the upper link in and see if it does anything

Asphalt related reply!  Adding pinion will only put bind on the drive shaft robbing horsepower that will give you the feel of hookimg up the tires, Its not the right answer. Secondly it will pull the rear out of square unless you totally resquare the rear.

So.... My brain is asking dirt or pavement?
Dennis and Jim both bring good points to the table.

You need to PM Dennis and give him all of your set up and track info.
All of my experience is on dirt, but without info, we could give you 10 different solutions that may or may not fix your problem

Dennis is correct. Pinion angle for this situation is a band-aid. It make it feel better, but you will rob HP from yourself.

What is a good pinion angle to keep the drive shaft happy and keep as much HP going to the rear wheels?

Is it dependant on the build of the drive shaft, the bearings/u joints as to the best pinion angle? I dont know if all legends shafts are the same? I have run big and small tube drive shafts from motor to an 8 and a 10 bolt rear end and recently a carbon fiber shaft waiting to go in.

The yoke on the diff should be at the same angle as the yoke on the engine.
