Hans Recertification?
« on: March 22, 2017, 08:14:36 am »
This will be my first season in Legends and I have a Hans device from 2012. According to SFI, they should be recertified every 5 years. I can't find anything in the INEX rulebook about having to recertify a Hans, just that you must use one. Does anyone know if I need to send mine in to be recertified to be legal?

Chris,

To be legal; The rule book just states :
9. FACTORY MANUFACTURED AUTOMOTIVE RACING HEAD AND NECK RESTRAINT  SYSTEMS ARE MANDATORY FOR ALL DRIVERS.

To Be Safe; I would go with whatever the manufacturer suggests.

I just had mine re-certified.  Happened to be in Charlotte on business and stopped by Simpson World.    They have a few levels to choose from.  The first is really just an inspection and new date put on the device.  I opted to get new straps made for mine because they were always a bit too long and I never felt like the device would work the way it should in a wreck.  They were also fraying a little bit.  Simpson has a racing seat in the store and can make up straps while you wait.  If you can't get to Charlotte I'm sure you can mail it in.

Remember the same date expiration applies to your seat belts as well.....
