Engine Start Issue
« on: January 28, 2018, 02:24:29 pm »
So I neglected my car, it's been on jackstands for a year or so. I did start it up every few weeks or so and it ran fine. All of a sudden....I can get it to fire briefly on full choke. After repeated starts, I can get it to run for longer periods of time, but it still needs varying degrees of choke and will not run without it. I've taken carbs apart and cleaned, replaced fuel in cell, changed plugs, found crack in fuel cell hose and replaced. It gets adequate fuel to engine as I've disconnected fuel line at carbs and turned fuel pump on. Nothing that I have done has even improved on the issue. Granted, it's the first time I have ever taken legends type carbs apart so possibly they are more sensitive than I expected? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Kevin Shaw

Hi Kevin,

Sounds like you have done all this; But worth the double check.
Usually, it is gummed up carbs. Just spraying the carbs with carb cleaner usually doesn't get the small passages cleaned out. Perhaps a bit of Sea Foam or Techron added to the fuel may help. ???
