I Think that it the little fella thinks orange and black are bad luck, we should use those colors. Hopefully we will get some of that bad luck and kick his butt this year?

Oh.....I am partial to pepsi blue with a artic cat green. Throw on an orange number for good measure.

haha, fine ill paint it lime green and purple and prove its the driver ;) jk..what do you plan on painting your cars?

One purple and one green. God forbid I should combine the two colors!!!! LOL!!
All kidding aside, Jim's color combo looked very nice together. You could spot the car day or night. I think that it is important that your paint stand out day or night.

You will be able to see the cars day or night this year. Going a completely different direction, The only thing thats staying the same are the Lime green and Purple numbers...even the number font is changing

I am going a differfent direction too.  For the first time in 11 years my car will not be mostly or all black.  Going silver this year.

If somebody was to paint their car with Chrome paint (or Gold for that matter) would that be too white trashy or ghetto for that matter?

I was at the store picking up my flat black rattle cans (I know, partially white trashy already) and saw the Chrome paint I thought about it for about a second and then came to my senses.  I guess my Trailer park history is showing through.......

You gotta admit it might look cool though?????? :D

I was told it could be bad to paint your car all black due to other drivers not seeing you on the track (especially if you spinout).  Do you guys see this as a real concern?  Last year I didn't have a problem seeing any other cars on the track (as most of them were in front of me  ;D )?

I guess an argument could be made for black being hard to see under some conditions, but I hit cars of every color last year  :P :'(

Gerad,

You are too funny!  :D  I think the chrome paints would be cost prohibitive. By the time you add up the cost of the special primer and numerous cans of spray paint. I think it would look cool on painted grills or if one was to paint on their numbers. I plan to paint the go kart frame with that chrome paint. Should be interesting!

As for all black cars; I think it would make it harder for other drivers to see at night races. It also makes it harder for the race fans to see the car at night.

The diagrams that I sent Brandon were basically blue and white with yellow and red for numbers and sponsors. Not a bad looking color combination!
I was having a lot of trouble clearing the colors from the outlines. If anyone has diagrams please email them to me and I will add them to my collection.
I'll send them to anyone that needs them.

Last month, I suggested a coloring contest to one of our members. He posted the diagrams on his facebook page for his friends and family to color. I submitted 8 different designs. Heard that I won; But don't know which color combo he decided on. Also don't know where I need to pick up my million dollar prize.  ;D

I think a black car can look very nice, but personally I would never have a dark colored car that I was going to race at night on a dirt track, especially since most tracks have only adequate lighting on a good night.  You want every advantage you can to be seen in poor conditions.

That is my 2¢ worth anyway.

I was told it could be bad to paint your car all black due to other drivers not seeing you on the track (especially if you spinout).  Do you guys see this as a real concern?

A popular place around here is Wild Inc. I think they actually did a wrap on Mark's new car.

Brandon,

Call Wild Inc. (Mitch) at (262)544-9453.  Very nice people to work with, very professional and really nice work.  He even has a program now that he can apply your ideas to a legends car and you can see how it will look before vinyl is even installed.  Check out my car at lower left hand corner of attached link.  Make sure you tell them I sent you.

Good luck! Mark

Downside to wraps is that they are pretty expensive. Repairing a section is more expensive than grabbing a rattle can and touching things up.
Don't get me wrong, I think they look cool as hell! Just saying that if you look at expense; I would go with paint.
My personal opinion for what it's worth.

Thanks i'll give both a call..Jim where are you getting your half wrap?

I got it from a company in Michigan. I'm putting it on myself. Theyre really not that hard to put on if youre patient, especially just doing the body...I wouldnt want to to the fenders myself.

I swung a little cash deal on the side with the guy. $220 for both cars and shipping.
Steve...the paint I bought cost more than that...just sayin...

You know Eric will take care of you Brandon

Just saying that basic colors are easy and cheap for touch ups.
You do get some bright a$$ colors, Jim!!!  8)

If you look closely, I did not wrap the fenders, just painted them.  We tried wrapping the fenders on the dirt car and we will NEVER do it again.  Took several hours just to wrap one fender and was  a  real pain to peal off for painting this year.  The vinyl job seen here was a little over $500 and included graphics for my helmet too.  Paint for fenders was free in my case, so it really didn't cost as much as many people think.  Keep in mind that a professional vinyl job will pay dividends with sponsors in the long run too.   I realize that not everyone can afford to have some sort of wrap on their cars, but just giving you an idea of the actual costs.

Just my two cents.

very nice looking mark, I will have to talk to him. I think I would just paint the fenders also.

Did you have the body off when you had it done or did you paint it with the body off them mounted it and then wrapped it?
Title: Re: Paint Schemes
Post by: Legends57x on January 29, 2011, 08:35:28 am
Brandon,

I took the entire car down minus the fenders.  It was much easier for them to install the lower wrap without the fenders on.   I then installed the fenders(at their shop) on the car the day I picked it up and he applied the number decals on the fenders.  You could probably just take the body down too, I don't see why not.

Hope this helps! ;D

I'm going black with red flames for my first season in legends.  It should hopefully look great.

I'm staying simple, black with white/flat black or purple fenders

Red is one of the least expensive colors so I am sticking with it.  Also, I have not run enough races to justify messing with it.   ;)

Jeff,

The flames kind of get lost in the gray. Like the flames though!
